Balchik is one of the oldest seaside towns. It is situated 35 km north of Varna and 7 km north-east of Albena. The town is built on several hills overlooking a small bay. The Roman poet Ovid admired the beauties of Balchik and called it The White Town. This trait is still valid for Balchik thanks to the multitude of houses built of white stone and the unique white sand rocks among which the town nestles. Unbelievably, despite its nearness to the resort of Albena, Balchik stays almost intact by international tourism and it has preserved its authentic atmosphere of a small seaport town with extremely friendly and hospitable residents.
